How to Sell Photography Knowledge on note: From Account Setup to Pricing Strategy

Learn how to monetize your photography and retouching expertise on note, from creating an account to implementing tiered pricing strategies and membership programs.

Your photography and retouching expertise is too valuable to keep hidden. note makes it simple to package your knowledge—text, images, video—and sell it as premium content without any technical setup. Here's a practical roadmap from account creation through pricing strategy.

1. Create Your Account

Set up an account on note and build out a complete profile. Include sample images from your work and highlight your track record. This builds trust with potential buyers and signals credibility.

2. Prepare Your Content

  • Formats supported: Text, images, audio, and video
  • Topics that work best: Specific, high-value content. Think shooting techniques, RAW processing and retouching workflows, or gear selection strategies
  • Pricing: Starting at 100 yen and up. Adjust based on your target audience

3. Create Your Article and Set It as Paid

  1. Create your article from the "Write Article" menu and upload your content
  2. In the "Publication Settings" at the bottom of the article, select "Paid Article" and set your price
  3. Decide how much of the article (the opening section) remains free to read. This preview should give potential buyers a clear sense of the article's value before they purchase

4. Register Your Bank Account

Go to the "Revenue" tab and link your bank account. Keep in mind that note charges a withdrawal fee of 270 yen, so it's more efficient to let earnings accumulate before withdrawing.

5. Publish and Promote

  • Share across your social media channels
  • Post in relevant photography communities and forums
  • Publish free articles regularly to build your audience and create touchpoints with followers

Remember to factor note's cut (10% of sales plus payment processing fees) into your pricing.

Design a Tiered Price Increase Strategy

Start with a lower initial price, then increase it in stages based on sales volume or time elapsed. This approach rewards early supporters while creating urgency for later buyers—"Now's the time to grab it before the price goes up."

Example tiered pricing:

  • Units 1–50: 300 yen
  • Units 51–100: 500 yen
  • Units 101+: 800 yen

Announce your pricing milestones (by sales count or date) in your article and on social media in advance. Messages like "Price increases after 50 sales" encourage immediate purchases. note doesn't have automatic volume-based pricing, so check your "Revenue" page regularly and update prices manually as you hit your targets.

Build Recurring Revenue with Memberships

note's membership feature lets you create a monthly subscription community. You can only run one membership per account, but you can set up multiple tiers (Basic Plan, Standard Plan, and Premium Plan, for example) to serve different audience segments.

  • Basic Plan: Core content (articles, shooting techniques, etc.)
  • Standard Plan: Live streams
  • Premium Plan: Bonus materials, one-on-one feedback

Consistency is key to retention. Decide on an update schedule ("one new post per week") and stick to it. Members unsubscribe quickly if content goes dormant, so establishing a publishing rhythm upfront makes operations smoother.

Practical Tips

  • Using tables: note doesn't support direct table embedding, so use Markdown syntax (| Column 1 | Column 2 | format) or take a screenshot of a table from Excel or a spreadsheet tool
  • Sharing drafts: Use the "Copy Draft URL" feature to get feedback from others before publishing—only people with the link can view it
  • Create a series: Build an index article that ties multiple related posts together. This helps readers see the big picture and encourages them to purchase the whole series

Summary

The note sales workflow is straightforward: ①create your account → ②prepare content → ③set articles as paid → ④promote → ⑤design your price increases. Start with individual articles to gauge interest, then scale up to a membership program for steady recurring income.
