Important for Sidekick Star users: risk of deleting original images
October 28, 2026
For safety, downloads and purchases of Sidekick Star (Full and Core) are paused.
We found that some released versions of Sidekick Star can delete the folder containing your original photos under a certain combination of folder layout and settings.
We have confirmed this problem in the version released on October 17, 2026 (including Core) and in the September 3 version. Other earlier released versions may contain the same problem.
Deleted files do not go to the Recycle Bin.
We are now verifying a fixed version with safety measures.
Please stop using Sidekick Star until the fixed version is released.
When it can happen
If "Auto-delete temporary files" under Lighten Composite is turned on and any of the following applies, the folder containing your original images can be deleted.
- The folder containing your photos is named "temp"
- The folder one level above your photo folder is named "temp"
- Your photos are in folders named like "temp\AI飛行機除去" or "temp\平均_N05"
Folder names are not case-sensitive: "Temp" and "TEMP" are included.
If you must use it
Uncheck "Auto-delete temporary files". It is off by default, but if you turned it on before, that setting may still be saved.
Turning this setting off does not solve every problem.
Do not use folders named "temp", or folders named "AI飛行機除去", "平均_N05" and the like inside it, to store your shooting data. With certain folder layouts, images can be overwritten regardless of this setting.
Also, RAW development can rewrite, and in rare cases delete, existing XMP files in the same folder as your photos.
Always back up important shooting data and XMP files to another location.
If possible, work on copies instead of the original images.
What comes next
We are verifying a fixed version that protects original images and existing XMP files.
We will release it after confirming its safety.
We apologize for the concern and inconvenience.
Protecting your shooting data is our top priority.
